Deckorators Balusters

I have complete putting up deckorators aluminum balusters around my deck. I spaced them 4.5" o.c like they said. This leaves me with a space between each baluster of 3.75".

Now I am on to the stairs. I have the angled connectors, but they say to put them on at 5.5" not 4.5". If I do this, will it still comply with code? Maybe due the angle it makes the gap less than 4". I'm confused.
