Decking Selection

Azek. Is it worth the money?

I'm reflooring my elevated deck. Azek Morado decking looks the best and matches the existing wall color. For those who install it or have had it installed, is the product worth the money?

Other questions:

Any know issues with Azek PVC decking that would change my mind?

Can the deck board be attached by screwing to the edges vs face nailing? Local building supply company is suggesting CAMO Hidden Deck Fastener system.
EDIT: I found a reference at both Azek and Camo that the Camo fastener is authorized for installing the deck boards.

Personally I don't like PVC boards so I usually recommend Fiberon Horizon or DuraLife Siesta (although duralife may be shaky right now due to a potential sale by it's parent company).

Robert,

Could you expand on why you don't like PVC?

While at the local building supply store, I picked up two product pamplets. One for Azek and one for Fiberon. I had never hear of Fiberon so I focused on Azek.

Nothing purchased yet so I'm open to recommendations.

Thanks.

I'm getting my Azek deck done starting next week. I like the low maintenance aspect of it and it was only around 2k more than cedar. I'll let you know how everything goes after it's done.

Thanks. I'm interested in how the project turns out.

What color decking?

Are you also having railing installed? I was quoted Azek railing. Problem is, my deck is 10'x10'. Rail sections come in 6' lengths. That means I'll have 6' of wasted product @ $37.00 per foot. Over $200.00 in railing pieces for the landfill. I need another railing choice.

I chose slate gray, I think it goes well with our brick color. We are going with cedar railings with black aluminum balusters. It should look something like this(but slate gray instead of brownstone):

Very nice. I like the contrast in colors on the rail.

Been a while but I thought I'd follow up my post with some pics.

I started staining the lower posts in a similar gray shade because the wood & slate gray Azek contrasted too much. I'd eventually like to cover those lower posts with some stone veneer.

it looks nice and all what is the cost per board foot? I just got back my Alaska Yellow cedar from the mill. I tracked that every step of the from log to lumber. And it was around total for what I did 4 dollars per board foot. my place smells so nice with that yellow cedar.
