Deck joist to beam connections

I am building a deck with 2x8 joists that span two beams. The deck will be no more than 20 inches off the ground.

I know I need hangers to connect the joists to the house but is there a problem with just toe nailing the joists to the beams they are resting on. If you recommend a hanger or bracket instead what kind and why? Thanks in advance for your help.

Toe nailing is fine, but check local code. Simpson does make connectors for that. Unless you are in seismic territory, not needed, IMHO.

Deck joist to beam connections

Under the 2009 Deck Code, toe-nails only if deck is attached to house, pp.7; http://www.lancova.com/deckinfo.pdf

No built-up beams on outside of posts, perimeter close-fastening end, rim joists through decking, etc.

no more than 20" off the ground...go floating deck, way faster construction.
