Deck Fasteners
I am resurfacing my deck and will use composite material, 5/4 Timbertech ... I want to use hidden fasteners and wonder what the opions are from some users. I see Tiger Claw TC-3 and I now see another brand called Invisifast -

I used the deckmaster fasteners on my Trex deck. Expensive but worth it IMO. I thought they were very easy to install, it just took a long time since the deck is 600+ square feet!

I used EB-TY fasteners and had nothing but problems.

Hey 47-47,
Can you elaborate on problems you had with the Eb-Ty fastners? I was considering them for a low level deck I'm building. It's about 600 SF and the deck boards will be 5/4 x 6 cedar. |
The problem I had was the SS trim screws (small and countersunk head) tended to pull right through the fastener. I found that driving them in at a slightly shallower angle than at the 45° they recommended gave slightly better results, but I still wasted quite a few clips.
If you choose to go with these, base your plate joiner setting from the underside of your deck boards. This way if there is any thickness variations, the slot will be at the correct height. I wound up using a polyurethane construction adhesive on top of the joists on each side of the fastener. The fasteners merely acted as clamps until the adhesive cured. I hope I never have to remove a deck board. Good luck |
