Deck built over cement step

Shurl Newbie   Join Date: May 2012 Posts: 6	Deck built over cement step We are planning a new deck. The problem is there is a solid cement step in the way. To remove it would require a bobcat tractor with a jack hammer to break it into pieces. If the deck was build over the step would that violate codes. Would this cause construction problems?

woodworkbykirk journeyman carpenter     Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: nova scotia canada Posts: 2,164	Deck built over cement step it violate codes, you just have to allow for it being in the way of the joists by notching the joists but ensuring they dont go anywhere by shimming under them on the highest step
