Deadbolt won't pull apart.

I'm trying to replace our dead bolt because it's keyed on both sides and for safety reasons, we want to put in one that locks on the interior side without a key. I have taken the screws out, but the lock won't pull apart. We have tried everything: pulling with the dead bolt locked and unlocked, turning the lock counter clockwise, nothing works. We even tried some WD40 in the crack between the lock and the door. Nothing. Any suggestions?

Deadbolt won't pull apart.

Hold one foot long (or so) piece of 2x4 flat against the face of the deadbolt, and rap the wood sharply with a hammer. Keep doing this on both sides, it should loosen it up.

Deadbolt won't pull apart.

Exactly what screws did you remove? There are two long ones that hold the lock parts together.

Some have a thin cover plate to hide the screw heads--Good luck trying to remove it--I usually destroy
the cover by driving a small screwdriver under the plate.
