Dark Siding

We just started building and have to decide on siding here really shortly. The only color we really like is the red by georgia pacific. Our builder is trying to steer us clear of the dark colors because of the fade issue. No other color really jumps out at us, and they all just seem blah and way over done. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the darker vinyl siding colors? Is it going to noticably fade? Will it fade in blotches or uniform? We don't know what to do, we feel like just biting the bullet and doing it but yet are a little hesitant also. The front of our house faces the east and back side faces the west so yes it will be in sun a lot!

Iíve found there are a number of people that tend to underestimate how powerful the sun can be at destroying things. All colors will fad and of coarse darker ones will be more noticeable. The fading will tend to be uneven as the siding under the eves, for example, wonít be subject to the same direct sun light as the siding a bit lower.

Another thing to consider is your location. Darker colors absorb more sun energy (converted to heat). If youíre in a northern climate this could help in the winter or, if youíre south, could mean higher electric bills to cool.
