Curtain hanging

Wonder if you may be able to help me.

I have tried to hang a curtain with some wall plugs over some balcony doors, but whereever I drill in to the wall, I seem to hit a steel plate (metal girder?). This only allows me to drill in approx. 1/2 inch.

The wall plugs for the curtain are at least 2/3 inches long, and the curtain and poll is likely to be heavy.

Is there any way of drilling in to the girder (have tried with metal bits) or a work around?

Hello

The easiest way around this is to glue a piece of timber to the wall and fix your curtain rail to that.

You 150 x 25mm PAR timber and 'Grip-fill' or 'Pink-Grip'. Make sure the wall is stripped of wall paper (if you have heavy curtains) before you stick the timber.

You can paint the timber the make it blend in.

Hope this helps.
