Default culture stone install question

i want to install cultured stone on my front porch which already has a parged finish. Can i apply mortar to this surface, and what type of mortar or thin set do you recommend? I also want to know can i use a wet saw to cut the material and what type of blade. Any other advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated.

i may want to clarify my question, parging a thin finish coat over the concrete block on a foundation

what kind of finish is on the block? your probibly going to have to go to your local masoary store to get some test material first.I had to try three differant coatings before I got one that would stick and hold to my brick.Mine was a combination of fiberglass skin coat and an additive to help adhere to the brick. The other choich I think would be to attach plywood the tar paper and lath then you could morter you stone to it.Yes you can cut it with a wet saw ant standres stone blade will do it but remember when cutting this is manufactured stone the cut ends will not look like the outside you see and are not nice

You may need some bottom support to carry the new weight of the stones. The manufacturer should be able to give you the requirements of their products.

If it is clean and unpainted, stick it with a modified thinset, no problem.

How are you doing Joe from Lawlor stone, You can scratch coat as we call it or apply right to the block as long it is not painted.Just dampen the block with water so that when you apply the stone to the wall the block will not suck the water out of the mortar. Use mortar 2 shovels of sand to 1 shovel of mortar type N, Dont use thin set it will pull to tight and you get hair line cracks in the stone,Cut the stone dry with a diamond blade no water, a little dusty but it ok. And Very IMPORTANT to dampen the stone also.Any question just holler
