Crown molding on window seat

I'm about to put the 'seat' on our renewed window seat w/3/4" ply. I want to use a small crown molding at front edge. Any suggestions on how to figure how much lip I need for this and should I finish ply edge 1st or just attach crown molding to cover it? RJB

Crown molding on window seat

Set the molding against a verticle surface as it would normally be mounted. Measure from the top front edge to the verticle surface, and add a bit for roundover and overhang. Usually about 3/4-1"
