Creating a very secure room

For less than what you are going to end up spending to build this room you could probably purchase a higher performance SAN and if properly encrypted 99% of people are not going to be able to break the encryption. And those that can are going to be able to get into the room no matter how much you secure it. ie the FBI.

Creating a very secure room

The DIY SAN I have in mind will probably cost me about 3k-5k to build depending on how many drives I go with initially.

If I keep things rather simple (ex: no masonry, just mostly wood) I figure the room might cost me 1k at most to build not counting the hvac and non security features (which no matter what I want to do). 2x4's and drywall arn't that expensive. The most expensive part will be the plywood, even then, I might try to look around to see if I can get a deal on lower quality stuff. Worse case scenario I just use 2x6's nailed diagonally against the 2x4's. Nobody is really going to kick a hole in that wall without some pretty big tools, and like I mentioned once I have a security alarm installed, they have maybe 15 minutes max to get in before the cops arrive. The blaring alarm and flashing lights outside may make them just run off too.

I could also add a 3rd layer of defense in case someone does make it in, but more I think about it, that's probably not even needed. The key to all of this is the alarm system, I need to do that part asap.

You need to look at Folger-Adam. Power to unlock. They will have everything you need, including hinges with no external (exposed) pin.

Also get your hands on some USG fiberock.
