crawlspace foundation question

My house has two crawlspaces with no access into the second, smaller one. We have a problem with moisture in the larger, accessible crawlspace, and since the smaller one is on lower ground than the larger one, I think we should assume it has a problem with moisture, too.

We'd like to put a hole in the foundation wall separating the two crawlspaces. The hole needs to be large enough to look through to see what's up on the other side. Can I just start chiseling out a cinder block or two without worrying about foundation integrity?

Thank you to anyone who has some sage words of advice.

you can remove a block or two but you need to add a header over this opening to maintain the integrity of the structure.

crawlspace foundation question

I have a basement systems guy telling me we can put a hole big enough for a worker to crawl through. It doesn't sound like it. Intuitively, I didn't think so. Thank you for the reply.

you can make it this big. Just add a 3" X 5" steel lintel for the header at top. Saw out the space needed for the steel and fill the gap above the steel with non-expanding grout. Also wrap the steel with window flashing tape to prevent rust from condensation.
