Crawl Space In Basement -- Please Help

All:

My wife and I recently purchased our first home on Long Island. The home is near 100 yrs old, but in very good condition. Previous owners finished the basement (80%...back room is a small workshop/laundry area) and recently refinished the kitchen at the back of the house (above a crawl space). There's radiant heating in the floor of the kitchen (the heating tubes run along the top of the crawl space).

The crawl space is all dirt. Of course, there's the piping at the top of the crawl space (water, radiant heat, etc.). There are no vents to the outside of the house. From what I can tell, the dirt is dry. Not a very moist basement.

I really would like to seal off the crawl space though. It opens to the back of the basement (the laundry/work shop areas), so it's not an eye sore. I just don't like the critters I'm finding around the basement -- spider crickets!!! I understand that the pipes must be accessible to plumbers, but there's got to be a way to handle that dirt and to basically seal it off.

A few questions:
1) If I were to go in there an lay down 10mil plastic, how would I glue it to the cinderblock walls of the crawl space?
2) If I were to simply screen off the crawl space opening in the basement, how would I attach the screen to the cinderblock walls?
3) Can you suggest a contractor to help seal the crawl space (perhaps making it a good storage area)?

I really would like to hammer this out quickly, so any help/guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,
THEKID

Ayuh,....

Personally,.....
I'd look to Sealing the crawl space from the Outdoors,....
Rather than sealing it from the Basement.......

That way,...
I'd be Sealing Out the Weather,+ Stray Critters......

There's no outside opening, whatsoever, to the crawl space. No vent...nothing. :(

I believe the spiders are coming up from the earth.

How big of an opening from basement to crawl space? It can be completely closed off to the basement, just needs a access panel/door.
