cracked OSB under stucco! any advice?
I am hoping someone could share some wisdom with me....after taking off the drywall on the inside of an exterior stucco wall, I found a crack where water had gotten through the stucco and caused the OSB underlayment to crack where it had obviously gotten damp. It dried out overnight but the crack is still there.
Any thoughts on how I could fix it? Is it possible to cut the spot of OSB out and put in a new piece to "patch" that spot and then restucco over it? or is there something I could just use to seal over the crack in the underlayment from behind? The stocco onthe outside of this spot looks fine for the most part, a small crack that i could fill no problem, but if the only way to fix it is to chisel it out and refill than I could attempt that too I suppose.
Anyway, thanks for anyone's advice, I could post a pic if that would help.
Post a picture of the outside crack and the inside of the osb, And lets see what we here can come up with. thanks BOB
Cracked OSB? I thought it would swell and delaminate not crack. Hmmm...
That might suggest something other than what I originally thought; where are you located, where did the water come from and do you see a vapour barrier under the OSB or under the drywall. Insulation? Is it near the roof line?
