Are cornerstones needed for faux dry stack stone fireplace?

We already have the stone for our fireplace but the guy building it for us said we do not need cornerstones. The fireplace has been framed out about 6-8 inches from the wall. I think without corner pieces it will look like faux stone since from the sides the stones will just look like flat stones. The stone was ordered from Home Depot and they seem to think there is no need for the cornerstones. Any advice?
