hey, I am an avid DIY- just curious about something, If I were to pour a concrete floor, what measures would I need to take to protect the sump and after, how to Finish the surrounding area? I am just curious as all....any suggestions?

Yep, just make sure the lid is on and secured, make sure the top of the pit is flush or just recessed below the floor elevation.

Be cautious when giving out that info. It's against code here in WI at least, where the crock needs to be at least 1" above the floor to avoid a potential sewage back-up contaminating the ground water of a sump crock.

Comm 82.36 (8) SUMPS AND PUMPS. (a) Sumps. 1. ‘General.’ All storm building
subdrains shall discharge into a sump, the contents of which shall be automatically
lifted and discharged, dispersed or used in accordance with sub. (4).
2. ‘Construction and installation’. a. Except as provided in subd. 2. c. and d., an
interior sump shall have a rim extending at least one inch above the floor immediately
adjacent to the sump.

Not challenging that statement Jomamma, just wondering what is in subsection 2 - (c) & (d)?

It would have been good to know where the OP is, but I would have not caught that one, here in MI the sumps are set level with the floor, and most, the floor is sloped toward them.

confused about sump pit and finishing around it

:wink:eek:k, soooo..... when pouring ? ??? I would pour upto the sump edge? and finish according to finish requirements???? Why do some concrete installers use a round tube on the exterior perimiter of the sump pit when pouring , and pour to the edge of the round tube???? at what point is this removed to finish to the lip of the sump pit or can i just pour right over top to the edge of the sump pit???? here we set the floor height and slope for the sump pit is just feathered in with about 4 degrees slope there abouts. plese help. (a lil confused)

That "round tube" is probably part of the crock, and they're leaving it up above the floor permanently per code........ :whistling2:

If you're going to pour it flush with the floor, you may want to mask off the lid & top edge of the crock to keep it clean.
