Concrete Dust on Prefinished Hardie
I recently had a contractor install 40 Sq of Pre-finished Hardie Siding(timberbark color) on my house. After they were done I noticed a lot of white dust/chalk/cement on the siding. They have come out and cleaned with Dawn detergent and water per Hardie's recommendations but the white dust (I assume cement dust) is still noticeable and to me I does not look good. I have suggested bringing out a Hardie rep and contractor is okay with this. I think contractor made some critical mistakes. First, he would remove the plastic fully, then cut and then hang. I think he should have removed enough plastic to make his cut, hang and then remove plastic. Secnond, he cut too close to the house and I know firsthand the cement dust was blowring right on the siding they were hanging. Third, they would not wipe down the boards after before or during install but assured me they do this as the last step and not to worry.
Well, it is a problem now and I almost feel as if 1/2 the house needs painted. I doubt the contractor will agree to this but the white stuff is not coming off. Anyone have any ideas on how to clean this stuff off? Thanks
Your "contractor" didn't have a clue what he was doing. Score and snap is the recommended method to cut it. If you use a saw, it has to be the right saw with the right blade and vacuum attached. The plastic comes off each course after it's installed. Make him paint it or, better, replace it.
