Concrete cut-edge support

I am removing about half of a 12 by 30 concrete patio. I have cut my new edge with a concrete saw and busted up the concrete (anybody need some fill west of Boston??). Now Im looking at gravel about 10 deep. My concern is that as I remove the gravel (to replace with soil for grass) the gravel under the remaining concrete slab is tumbling out, leaving the edge of the slab poorly supported. How can I secure the gravel in place at the new edge of the slab?
Thanks for any thoughts!
