Concrete block repair
I have to patch the face of a concrete block on my foundation. What is the best material to use as far as something with a good bond?

concrete works good. Just use a bonding agent over a clean and dry foundation wall. Sand mix, not gravel mix.

How big is the patch you are making? Length, width, and depth? Is the wall painted? Will it be painted?

I think he is talking about parging the foundation.... Need some more info here.

Its bare block . The weather over the years has gotten to it . Its about a spot 4X7 and abut 1/4" deep.

A patch that small I would just use a mortar mix. Go to lowes/ HD buy Mason Mix. You are not really looking for strength in this situation, you are looking for bond. Be sure to clean the area very well. Lightly dampen the block and trowel it on. Let the mud set up for alittle while then rub it in a circular pattern with a lighty dampened sponge. If you have a large sponge like the type to wash a car with that will work well.
