Compatible caulk?

Howdy,
What type of caulking would be compatible with 15 lb building felt and the nailing fins on vinyl windows?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Dave,

Window nailing fins are generally not caulked or siliconed, unless spcified by the window manufacturer.

They are most often overlaid with water and Ice shield strips, or other brand of flexibale flashing. There is a process to layering each strip.

Compatible caulk?

The reason I asked the question is that during the time that I was considering which house wrap material to use, I downloaded the instructions for wrapping windows from the Tyvek site and they show running a bead of caulk along all three jambs and not the sill after you have applied the stick on flashing to the exterior sheathing. Would you say that this is not correct? I want your opinion.

I downloaded the two articles you gave to me and will study them carefully.

I am retired and living about 13 miles from the Canadian border near Bellingham WA. I am about to build a new solar home that has a radiant concrete slab floor powered by a geo-thermal heat pump. It will have lots of windows on the south side and I am being very careful to do the research ahead of the tasks so they are done correctly.

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.
Cheers,
Solar Dave

Hi Dave,

Some manufacturers call for silicone. That would be the sealant to use.
