coffered ceilings

What would be the optimum ceiling height for a coffered ceiling?
Its in a great room and could be 10' or 12'

I don't think there's an "optimum" height for a "coffered" ceiling.
However, if you can go with 12 ft. - probably do that -
the added height lends for greater "eye-candy" appeal.
Better appreciation and perspective.
Just an opinion.
Opens up the room more.

Happy Holidays!

Just starting construction. I can make it any height or vaulted. Great room comes straight off kitchen and the ceiling height in kitchen is 10'. Thinking about stepping up to 12' in great room.

12' is good on the great room (though I would vault up from there. You sound like the roof hasn't even been designed yet if you can make ceiling any height, vaulted,.etc)
But IMO, 10' is too tall for a kitchen. Too much blank wall above the cabinets.
Don't the plans specify any of this?
Your mind should be made up before construction begins.
