Coating/sealing basement dirt walls

i own a older home with a basement. The foundation walls have exposed dirt-as this was somewhat common in older homes. the floor is concrete. i need to coat this exposed dirt with something to seal and keep down the earth smell/dampness in my basement. I am a realtor and once I saw a white coating-thick sealer in a basement on these type walls. any ideas thank you

Parging the walls is not likely to hold up. I would say you have 2 choices 1 build a form and pour concrete or 2 build concrete block wall.

Concrete is the only way to go.

we'd install an air exchanger instead unless the dirt's objectionable then install 20mm vapor barrier, too
