Close Call

Just thought everyone migh like to see what could happen when you use the wrong size column. We were jacking up the floor to put an LVL shim bewteen the post and the beam when this happened.Luckilly no one or nothing was hurt, but it was amazing and scarry to see a beam with full load drop an 1/2. Luckily no on had their hand in between the post and the beam when this failed. From now on, I will only use the highest rated parts I can find.

Thanks for sharing that....

FWIW - We use 6x6 posts - (more than one if necessary-so as not to put all the stress into one area of raising a beam) .....and the strongest-weight truck capacity bottle jacks we can find...never had a problem in 22 years of raising beams....
