Chimney Caulking

We had a new fireplace insert installed a couple years ago and the installer told my wife that we need to caulk the chimney every year. Is this true?

Chimney Caulking

Chimneys get really warm, especially metal ones. Regular caulking shouldn't be needed on a yearly basis. There might be a high temp caulk put on initially to seal it but it shouldn't need to be redone to often.
Can you post some photos?
