I have a patio roof that needs the post and headers replaced. Patio spans 27' and is held up by four 4x6's with three 4x8 headers. My question is this; can I take out two of the columns or just one and split the difference on the headers so as to use only two? Of course I would change the size of the headers and posts. Header would be 6x8 and posts would be 6x6. Is this doable?
I live in Arizona and that's how it was built with the house. You are correct about the splitting, that's why I am replacing them. So you think I need to just stay with the three headers and four posts? I was thinking about using Douglas fir or a pressure treated.
