I am replacing the ceramic tile on the walls and the floor. The tile was applied using a mastic adhesive. I have removed the tile from the walls and have tried to remove the mastic on one wall. I finally romoved the mastic from one wall. The walls are sheetrock with a base and finish coat of plaster. I would like to re-tile with ceramic on the walls and floor. Instead of removing the all the mastic, I am wondering whether I can apply a skin coat of thin set plaster such as Durabond 45 or 90 and then apply the wall tiles over the plaster coating. Can I use Weldobond Plus to prepare the walls for better adhesion of the ceramic thinset. I was planning on using Laticrete 4-XLT for the thinset. The floor is on a concrete slab and after removing the tile, I was planning on removing the mastic and using the same Laticrete thinset. Am I doing the right thing here and using the right products Any help would be appreciated.
Also, this is a half bathroom, no bath/shower just toilet and sink. Floor area is 28SF Wall area is 55SF. I know that the smart thing is to rip all the sheet rock out but I want to save all the orignal molding and windows. Thanks for your help
