cement stairs

My cement stairs leading up to my front porch have badly deteriorated over the last few years. They are cracked all over and they are not nearly smooth. I was thinking about taking some cement and just smoothing it out. My question is what is the best cement to use, and how would i be able to make sure the cement would be the same color as the old cement?

cement stairs

we'd suggest a polymer-modified coating after proper prep altho most others'll use a top 'n' bond product avail at any apron store,,, coat the whole step unit & take the color match out of the game,,, whatever you do, if the prep's not done correctly, nothing'll work well !

ps - cement is an ingredient of concrete.
