Ceiling and Wall separates
I have a two story home with an attached great room, 27 x 16, ceiling is vaulted. Every winter along the common wall ceiling the dry wall seaprates. Probably due to expansion and contraction of the roof. How can I repair the crack, ~1/4", paint and not not cause additional problems in the summer when the crack is not present?
1/4 seems like a lot for it to crack to come and go. I wonder if something like a foundation or slab is actually shifting from frost or something. Hopefully it is actually only like 1/8th of an inch or less. Then it could be taped and plastered and most likely will hold up to the expansion and contraction. If larger and you are just looking to hide it you would most likely have to use moldings or something.
