ceiling joist size for 10.6 foot width room
Can't seem to find a link online for the specs for a ceiling joist beam to support the trusses on a tar and gravel roof for a room that is 10' 6" wide. I took out a petition wall that was separating two rooms to make one long room. Could someone direct me to a website that provides uniform building code for this particular issue in the state of Florida.:whistling2:

I do not know of any beam sizing software on the web
If you need to put a beam in to support floor etc where you will need to have a beam sized My local Lumber Co did this for free, other areas they may not do this Did you verify the wall was not load bearing before taking it down ? If you have trusses or ceiling joists that landed on this wall then it was load bearing & you should have a support wall up until the beam is in place Pics of the opening/roof would help |
Sounds like you need a copy of IRC Table R502.5(2). There is a website somewhere on line that posts State Codes. If the State Code refers to IRC the website posts a copy of the IRC. I can't remember where it is but I found it a couple years ago. Keep searching the web and you'll find it.

It's on page 9 of this free download: http://rapidlibrary.com/download_fil...ing+Codes+.rar
It's only the 2003 version, with some '97 references. Be safe, G |
I would check with your local lumber company or even some residential steel suppliers will tell you what you need if you buy the material from them. Something like that I would definately get an experts opinion.
