cat 5 to phone wall jack


I ma posting here because this should be fairly simple and this category gets more views than the pc one.....I have cat 5 wire and need to wire to a regular phone wall plate, ie: orange, green, blue, brown solid/stripped, what goes to the red, green, black, yellow screws on plate???

cat 5 to phone wall jack


Notice that you only have to connect the green and red unless you are using a 2-line phone.

so don't connect the black or yellow for a single line and will it affect anything if I go ahead and connect both sets?? thanks for the pic

You could if you like, it won't hurt. But if you know that you'll never use it, you don't have to waste your time with it. Your best bet is to pay 100% attention to the green and red and make sure they are connected properly and securely.
