Carport Construction

I am building a 24'x24' gabled roof carport on 6x6 wood posts. I am sandwiching the three 6x6 posts along sides with 2x12s - front to back. I am spanning the front 2 corner posts and middle with one 2x12 (no center post in front and middle). Any suggestion on splicing the 2x12...using a 16' and 8' long?
Thanks

It is all up to your local code. You must make sure that your spans are ok. If they are, I always notch the top of the 6x6's for the 2x12's to set in. I always like to break my 2x12 over top of one of the notches and make sure that I don't break both of them over the same 6x6.

Checking Code Spans and talking with Mr. Inspector is a good thing prior to doing work.
Glue Lams and other framing materials are also available and at times are worth the extra investment if going end to end with a single beam is desired.
