Hello all,
Our house was build in the 1920s then added onto in the early 50s. The part that was bumped out includes a crawlspace with glass blocks that the floor joists for the upper living room appear to rest on. Glass blocks aren't structural are they? I noticed this when I was cleaning out the debris the previous owners left in the crawl space.
As you can see from the photos, the original 1920s basement window looks out into the dirt crawl space where the addition made the main floor larger and they used glass blocks to let light into the basement via the old basement window.
Since it's been this way for 60+ years and survived 2 large earthquakes I guess it's not really a problem yet. I was considering adding a beam across the span and 2 posts. Has anyone seen this done before? Any thoughts?
Thanks
