Can't get through Super Tile!

I've been trying to hang these nice shelves in my bathroom,
I have never drilled into tile before, and when I asked, the guy in the hardwood store said I needed a special drill bit.
so I bought it, this drill bit was very small (much smaller than the screw that was to go in after it) but it had this diamond shaped head, so I went with it. Put some masking tape on the tile to avoid cracks, and started drilling, it seemed to be working ok, but after about 0.5mm it I couldn't go further. So I went back and bought another drill bit, this time bigger, badder, designed for cemant or concrete, and started drilling with that. the whole widend, got another 0.5mm in, and thats it!

I feel like I'm trying to drill into superman!
Nothing will budge. When I try harder, I just get smoke.
I'm using a BOSCH 5.5 Amps drill.

what am I doing wrong?
I know these ceramics could be drilled through cause there is already a very nice hole there that the former resident drilled.
help?

Is the bit you got a carbide tipped masonry bit? That's the one that'll do it. You may need to exert a little force at first, but make sure you hold up on the pressure once you know you nearing the end.

Does just like it sounds, drills, with a slight hammering motion, ask at a tool store. Ask for a masonry bit too, in case that's not what you got the second time around

I've used them on ceramic before with no problems, just make sure the tiles are bonded to a reatively solid surface, any more tips from a pro?
