Question

Can roofing nails be used for sheathing

My contractor has used roofing nails to put sheathing up on one of my walls , is this ok?
Will it cause any issues I should be aware if?

are they ring shanked roofing nails and how long are they? if it is the blackboard sheathing then it is fine but not so much for plywood in my opinion

I don't know exactly how long they are , but they are much longer than the nails that were used for the sheathing on the other walls. Also the sheathing is plywood.

I believe a nail gun
They ran out of the other nails and just used what they had
I was not there, it was noticed after the fact so I am not 100% sure .
When we brought it to The contractor attention , he acted surprised but said " it was probly better cause the nails are bigger n longer" but we could tell him was just trying to cover himself
We really don't know if we should make a big deal n have him rip the new siding down and Replace it

Type of wall sheathing fasteners are governed by local and/or state stipulated Building Codes. This is especially so, based on region (some are more prone to storms and hurricanes than others + some are in seismic zones). Some sidewalls also fall under the shear wall category and require specific plywood installation patterns, with specific fasteners types, placed at specific locations and intervals.

(FWIW - You don't have your location listed anywhere).

Here is an example of wall sheathing fastener codes:

You are under both the IRC and IBC, ask locally. Here are the minimum Code basics;http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/ic...002_par005.htm
