Building a tiki bar.

Hi,

I would like to know if any of you have ever built a tiki bar, if so, how difficult is it? I want to build one for a friends birthday, nothing fancy. I have Googled for ideas, found some, but nothing that shows plans. I did find this site: http://www.tikikev.com/tikibar-how-to.html is it worth it?

Thanks,
Emil

If I was only going to build one I dont know that I would spend the 20 bucks on the book ,you can get a pretty good ideal of how to frame it from the photos on that site. Then it looks like it just a matter of covering it with say some knotty pine and a good poly coating. The hardest part I see is finding the thatch for the roof (depending on where you live that is)

Hi Clasact, thanks for replying. On a scale of 1-10, how hard do you think it would be to build one myself?

it's an e-book, not a real book... which tells me the information can be found for free somewhere on the net. most e-books are just selling you a free website..

check the local library out.

from the photos on that page and if you even a little handy with hand tools I would say about a 2.Like I said I think the hardest part would be finding the thatch for the roof depending on where you live

We used Gilligan's Tiki Huts in Florida. They build nation wide. http://www.tikihuts.net
They did a great job.

They're in my hometown. Jason frequents the same Wendy's I eat at. They really do have a first class operation.
