Building Out a Closet
I am going to be adding a closet into a room of my new house. I have a handle on the basics of framing it out but my questions are how to attach it to the existing walls, foor and ceiling.
The walls are paster on lathe, and I guess the ceiling is too. The floors are original hardwoods from 38.
My plan was to screw the framing to studs through the plaster on the walls and on the ceiling. The floor is where my concern in. Should I cut the floor out where the wall will sit and nail it directly to the subfloor, or just leave the floor alone and nail right through it?
My dad said he sould just nail it straight through the hardwoods, but I'm not sure. It seems like that would work ok, but has me worried if the floors ever need to be replaced for whatever reason.
Attached shows how the new closet will sit in red, black box is existing walls.
What says thee oh DYI Chat?
I would simply go over the floor
