Building a Cedar Pergola

Should I place the Cedar post 2 ft in ground or should I use collars on top of the concrete and have the post on top on the concrete. I'm being told by friends that Cedat will rot over time if it is in concrete.

Depending upon the conditions/installation cedar can rot in as little as 10 years, maybe less

All wood will rot quicker in ground vs. on top. Step it off the soil with the standoffs.
