Brick repair staining

My friends bought a house that had the foundation fixed and the brick and mortar repair was done by some BOZO. The mortar they put on the cracks is about 1 1/2" wide and about 1/4" thick. I am going to cold chisel off the excess and try and sponge some stain onto the multi colored brick.

Does anyone know where I can get some sort of sampler multi color stain kit that i can experiment with to give it that dappled color look?

Before worrying about the stain, try cleaning that wall with a cold chisel and tell us how it goes.
