Brick Exterior Facelift

I have a 17yr old brick house. It looks as though there was paint on the bricks to make it gray/white etc. It is wearing off and looks like the bricks were a redish color which now looks pretty bad. Is it possible to repaint or possibly use concrete/masonry stain to update the look?

It can be repainted. Go to a local paint store, real paint store like SW or BM, not HD or Lowes, and ask for advice. The basics are a good washing, wire brush off any loose or scaling paint, and spot prime. Depending on how badly the old paint is chalking, they may recommend a complete priming with a bonding primer. As has been posted many times, even a contractor grade product from them will be superior to the so called "premium" paints from the big boxes. Also a good time to chip away the most likely cracked and failing old caulk at doors and windows and redo with a quality sealant, as oppossed to just smearing a wider bead of latex over the old stuff.
