Default boat dock as house deck?

OK, I know this idea sounds like something Red Green would dream up, but here goes anyhow. I need to build a 12'x20' deck 1'6" above the ground off my back porch. I'm starting to get sticker shock from the cost of materials (composite) and so I've been thinking about alternative solutions. Here in the land of 10,000 lakes, used aluminum frame dock sections with composite planking can be had for cheap. Would a deck constructed from these (mounted on dock pilings) be sturdy and serviceable? Has anyone tried this?
