Board and Batten q's

I have some questions regarding board and batten siding, I can find information regarding how to nail it, size, flashing, etc, but nothing regarding my particular project. My wife and I are buying a structure that was turned into a house, actually, it used to be a calf barn once upon a time. It is one story, pole barn style, with board and batton. I want to refinish the outside, and hope to reuse alot of the original boards, they are in great shape, but when it was constructed, they just kinda ended the boards, and slighty backfilled against them, so any digging critters and end up in the wall, my original plan (just spitballing here) is build up some sort curb at the bottom, put sheathing, then housewrap, then furring strip,, then siding on, but im just not sure about all the details of it all. I will try and get some close up pics later today.

Board and Batten q's

Here are a couple of pics, I will try and get back up there for some better ones maybe tommorow. Gap at the bottom of house closest to viewer is an addition where there is a "crawl space" of about 6 inches, with no poured foundation, just built on posts. Rest of building has a slab.
