bigger window installation

trying to install a bigger window in a bedroom located in on of the house corners ( ranch, one level house build in 1959), while taking off the dry wall, find out that there is a 1x4 extra support runs from the top corner of the wall all way to the floor in 45 angel, attached on the side of the studs. the bigger window will be in the way . what necessary steps should be taken?
