Best Method To Sleeve Slab Penetrations

What is the best method to sleeve or protect plumbing and electrical conduit where it penetrates the slab, or is it even necessary with PVC?

All penetrations within concrete should be sleeved for several reasons, one being expansion and contraction of the pipe, second to allow for slight shifting of the slab or earth (hopefully it doesn't happen, but can!!!)

Either place a larger piece of pipe over the current one and pull out as the concrete starts setting, but before it cures as it is almost impossible to remove at that point, or wrap the pipes (1/2") with a sill gasket foam.

Chris...If you were to put a 1" peice of conduit in a slab and sleeve it with say a 2" peice of pvc, do you need to pull the larger pipe out or can you leave it in place? Just curious, thanks

I suppose you could leave it in, I always pull them out when we are on top finishing the slab, just give it a little wiggle and twist and up the come.

Our new construction gets 1-1/2 inch ABS plastic with large sweeps under the slab, then PEX ran inside of this...ever a problem, out it comes.
