Best blade for circular saw to cut multiple layers.

Clutchcargo I have gas!     Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Massachusetts Posts: 1,653	Best blade for circular saw to cut multiple layers. I'm adding a beam and hangers to remove a load bearing wall. I need to cut a path in my ceiling using my dust collecting circular saw to gain access. I'm hoping that someone has a suggestion for a wrecking blade. I don't want to go at it with the sawzall because I need to live in the area that I'm working in and it tends to throw dust and grit everywhere. The ceiling had been redone many years ago and now there are 4 layers that I need to cut through… newer plaster, metal lath, old plaster, and finally wooden lath. What is best blade for this? I was thinking of using a diamond coated tile blade but I’m worried the metal lath will dull it pretty quick. TIA __________________ I tear things down and build them up. It looks like I may just have to suck it up and make a mess with a sawzall. That metal lath is not easy to remove especially when you can't fully plunge the blade because I'm cutting perpendicular to the joists. __________________ I tear things down and build them up.

I've used a reg wood cutting blade on junk wood w/nails Not sure how that would stand up to metal lathe Used a hatchet on metal lathe at my mom's years ago before I had any tools It was a mess

I've used like, maybe a new 40T carbide tipped blade to cut out plaster/metal lath ceilings and the old wood lumber joists. Plan your cut! We hung plastic to the ceiling of the room on four sides of the cut area to create a work room, then placed a shop vac hose in there for dust control and carefully cut away. My first attempt with a 24T blade resulted in the metal lath hanging up in the teeth, the 40T (I'm pretty sure of the count), and moving a little slower worked much better. Please wear a good respirator. Good Luck, David
