Bending air ducts?

I am in the planning stages of finishing my basement and had a question regarding the flexible air ducts. I was wondering how much I might be able to bend the ducts in order to conserve some ceiling height (without restricting to much air flow)...or if there are any other possibilities. I would like to be able to frame out (ie. lower ceiling) as little as possible. Either way it won't be so bad. The lowest point would be about 7.5ft, its just that it is about 9.5-10 ft to the joists (which would really make the space feel bigger).
