I need structual advice on building 2 beams? Hopefully from 2X12s.

I need a to build two beams to span 20 feet supporting a metal roof 33 feet wide 12 to 20 feet deep being a half moon in shape.

The 2 beams will be the center two supports spanining the 20 foot depth 11 foot apart. I will use 2 = 2X12X12 on each outside side which is the 12 foot span.

The beams will have 2X8X11 attached to them at 2 foot on center 0 to 20 feet. The 2X8X11s will be the prulins that the metal roof will be screwed to.

The pitch or fall in the roof will be 1 inch per foot or 20 inches total.

I live in South Central Missouri have 7 inches of average snow fall and freezing rain which can add to the weight.

I have the advice you are looking for:

Call a local structural engineer. A licensed engineer isn't going to do calculations for you on a DIY board. Plus when you go for your permit, the township will more than likely require a sealed set of drawings and calculations. So you're best bet is to contact a local engineer.

Aggie67 is right. I like to do everything myself. Almost never hire someon e to do calculations like that, But sometimes hireing someone is the right thing to do. With a project like the one you are planing hiring a professional is the right thing to do. Goodluck
