Batten board siding

I am thinking of using twoby eights and two by sixes to do batten board siding on my cabin on the river. The wood is free other than pulling a few nails.how would I start and how would I trim aruond windows any sugestions.

Batten board siding

Those are the boards, what are the battens? Not the 2x6's, they would look odd. 1x8 and 1x2, 1x6 and 1x2. Trim the windows first.
