Bathtub surround.

I have a bath surround that includes the tub. It looks like the wall sourround is seperate because I can see the seams around the top of the tub. Can I remove only the wall surround and install tile and keep the remaining tub surround ?

Bathtub surround.

Hi Gwen,

Could you post a pic so we have an idea of what kind of surround you have?

Bathtub surround.

I have tried, but for some reason I am unable to attach the pictures. So iI have given more info. Maybe it will help. I think the wall surround is in three pieces(seperate back, side and front panels) and is only attached at the egdes. I think this because I can push in the middle of the wall surround and it move in and out. This surround has been in since 1991.

Thanks

OK, that's a little better. Apparently you have a plastic tub surround attached at only the edges.

So now what?

Yes, so can I remove the wall surrround, leave the tub surround, and install tile in place of the wall surround?

Depends on what you find for wallboard under the surround plastic. If it is drywall (and it most likely is) you can not install tile directly to the drywall, but there are ways to remedy that situation.

Peel the plastic and let's go from there.
