Question

Basement water

If I put cement backer board on the first foot of a basement stud wall, when I drywall, to avoid the water soaked dry wall would it work? I would also not put insulation for the first foot.

Do you have active water problems? Or are you worried about a flood? Water will wick up the backerboard, or just get to the drywall through the high humidity in the air anyways. Don't close up the walls if there's water infiltation, deal with the deeper, undelying problem, such as improper grading of your property, downspouts that release too close, collapsed/clogged footer drain if you can.

I am only worried about the power off no one home to start the generator, flood.

I know, get an automatic generator, sorry not enough money, $5k here in IL.

Don't put fiberglass anywhere you think it could get wet or damp. It holds water and will never dry out enough in place.
