basement walls - finishing options

my basement has the 1940's clay block which are in good shape but I'd like to cover them. Have done the stud wall before with plastic behind, then insulate and finish. Wondering about troweling on a cement finish similar to stucco? Glue a backing board to block first then cover or ???

thanks!!

do a search and read the hundreds of ideas on this subject first. You need to understand a lot more before you are ready to do this project correctly. Handling moisture is your main concern. Your past experience shows you did this all wrong, so study what is already available here.
